One of the greatest minds had once said: “Everybody in this country should learn to program a computer because it teaches you how to think.” it is quoted by Steve Jobs. He knew about what will be the future of technology, where most of the things will turn to digital and computer, it will be an essential part of our life- either we will be using it or relying on its uses.

On the 29th of July, India has taken a giant step ahead in the sector of Education. New education policy has been introduced for school and college-going students after more than three decades. During this period, many significant changes had happened globally on a huge level, be it economic, social and technical. The changes have brought a new perspective in the education sector right from the school level.

The most embraced element of the new education policy which has been welcomed by parents is coding courses for kids as a part of their school curriculum. The NEP understands the importance of teaching coding to school-going children. Through coding students can learn to make websites, mobile application, Software, AI programs etc. that would be needed for a better and technically advanced future.

Instilling an education of coding makes them future-ready. The recent COVID-19 scenario has taken most of the world to the digital side and parents want their children to learn more about how digital things work because that is the need of the hour and also the future. A large number of sectors have marked their online presence and some are on the way. Coders play an important role in managing, developing and programming so that the online part of these sectors can work efficiently.

Learning programming empowers children with the skills which remain with them forever. When they learn to program, they write codes in the right order so that their program can work. It also requires experimentation which develops expertise in sequencing skill, maths, problem-solving skills, logical thinking, reasoning and creative thinking. When they express themselves through code they find it more interesting to create mobile games, applications, website, AI and controlling robots etc. The soon we introduce them with coding the better they will perform in the future and become more comfortable with computer and technology. Initially, it seems like learning a foreign language. They start with learning basic vocabularies like algorithm, program, and sequence, they become more concrete with the concepts at a later stage. Also, developing a basic knowledge provides them with an opportunity to choose any career profile in future.

Introducing computer programming to children at an early stage would be a better choice as it will give a head start to them when they reach to class VI. They will be already ahead of their peers. Keeping in mind the current health scenario, many parents are looking for online coding courses for students. It is a better option as they can learn with safety at home and also get parental support on the go.
